20 – 23 August 2020
Four days of pure fun at the foot of Monviso in Piedmont in Val Varaita.
Cottian Alps were the perfect landscape on the paths that are different every day, with terrains alternating: woods, passing through the hills to the bare slopes at high altitude. The King Stone as a setting for four days of true Mtb Enduro with secret specials test for all riders. The skill test to rediscover the charm of “on sight” driving.
An all-Italian MTB with 9 specials test scheduled in which two at night and a prologue for the starting tables for the first day. A mix of technique, chronometer that marks the time and lots of fun.
Mirco Montagni tells us about his experience at the Trans Varaita.
“I participated thanks to a friend because he had done it last year and had a lot of fun, both for the mood of the event and for the people.
A race lasting several days, and above all guided on sight, that is, you will never know what awaits you, neither uphill nor downhill. In Italy there are not many of these types of French-style races. This is the main reason for choosing to participate. I love to drive on sight, have a free field in front of me and improvise, enjoying every meter of the path and not… it is also nice to go for a walk in some bush, better line. “
The 4-day MTB enduro race / adventure in the Varaita Valley began for Mirco on the morning of August 20. Having left Thursday at dawn, Mirco arrived at his destination and immediately undertook the prologue and two special stages, one of which at night.
“Every day the climbs and descents were different, we used a few lifts, carried the bike on our shoulders for several hours, walked along exposed traverses and at high altitude, cycled a lot. Fortunately, I am used to these efforts and I am used to these efforts, but I guarantee you that there were riders at altitude already cooked on the second day.
Every day we changed starting point, base camp, all within half an hour of each other. “
A victory for Mirco
Piedmont has breathtaking, technical and varied trails for all levels, offering cyclists unforgettable landscapes and experiences. The beauty of this race is that at the end of the day you meet all the riders at the bivouac and exchange ideas, experiences and laughs together. A nice carefree mood that is worth the effort faced.
“Juggling a multi-day race is never easy. Every day there was to be kept cool as much as possible during the ascent and then tackle very long, technical, exposed descents, but on the other hand also flow, pedaling and very fast, in short, there was everything, on the other hand in 1000 … 1500 mt of negative altitude there is everything and for all tastes. How nice it was for a lifetime that I didn’t finish a descent with forearms as hard as concrete and reach the end of the four days at the top of the standings “.
